Joining New Horizons Band

In this NCRA Awards submission, from the “entertainment episode” of New Horizons Radio, you'll hear how the New Horizons Band provides a fun music experience for adults who have little or no musical experience, have been musically inactive for a period of time or who simply enjoy making music.  As we discussed the mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual benefits, listeners could hear how adults can learn in a friendly, supportive environment with a focus on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments!  In the full mixdown, the show aired music recorded at a performance.  The interview also promotes the music of local artist, and New Horizons Band Guelph’s Artistic Director, Brent Rowan, who joked to host Kim Logue like Vogue she would look good in a sousaphone.  Would you believe she’s since joined the band?

About New Horizons Radio:
The New Horizons project/radio show provided training to seniors, to record, broadcast and produce media. The 27 unique 1 hour episodes broadcast on CFRU, June 2014-Feb 2015, enhanced understanding of our seniors' community. Moving around Guelph, to go where seniors' stories are, the Mobile Studio provided a supportive environment for diverse people to safely express themselves, about things they care about.

Producer Bio:
Kim Logue-like-Vogue has donned and still wears many hats for CFRU, including volunteer, award-winning/syndicated hoofbeats radio programmer, Programming Committee member, interim Spoken Word Coordinator, Board Member, Polylingual/Syndication Coordinator, and Mobile Recording Assistant.  She also presented "Radio 101" workshops and hosted a live to air at  Hillside Festival last summer.
